Reference Service

Howdy Library people,

Yesterday afternoon, the software in our computer system was being updated. At times, this meant a delay to public library users for access to our internet connection. Alas, this made some members of the public angry. One man stormed to our reference desk here in Roseville to find out the "exact" time the internet would again be accessible. When I informed him that no one knew "for sure." He was quite irritated...it made me realize again, when at the reference desk, the public can view me as "ANSWER MAN!" When ANSWER MAN does not know the answers, they are not happy. Service with a smile, even when the person you are helping delivers a frown! Whew, that ain't always easy.
